Justinna and Marshall(Jed Farquhar, Michael Farquhar, Justinna Sims and Marshall Robertson)

Justinna Napaljarri Sims was born in 1977 in Alice Springs near a remote country Yuedumu and speaks the Walpiri Language. Justinna paints her grandfather’s Jukurrpa Dreamings stories, most of which relate directly to the lands.

Art by Farquhar has been to home to many of Justinna paintings, including her story of Seven Sisters. “Seven Sisters Dreaming” (Napaljarri-Warnu Jukurrpa) depicts the story of seven ancestral sisters who are found in the night sky in a cluster of seven stars, commonly known as Pleiades. The Pleiades are often illustrated carrying the Jampijinpa man who is in love with them. The Jukurra-Jukurra, a morning star, is a Jakamarra man who is also in love with the seven sisters and found chasing them around the night sky. To escape the men, the women turn themselves into fire and ascend into the heavens to become star.

Justinna is married to Marshall Jangala Robertson, who also paints for us here at Art By Farquhar
