Collection: Carolanne Ken

Carolanne Ken is a contemporary artist from APY lands, Fregon, Australia. She is known for her vibrant and bold paintings that often depict the stories and culture of her home country, particularly the traditional stories of the Anangu people, the Indigenous inhabitants of the area.

One of her most well-known series of works is the Miniyma Malilu paintings which depict the story of the crippled women. This story is about a group of women who were punished for breaking traditional laws and as a result, were left with a physical disability. The story is about the resilience, strength and perseverance of these women and how they found a way to live fulfilling lives despite their conditions.

Carolanne's Miniyma Malilu paintings are characterised by her bright colours and bold brushstrokes, which give her work a sense of movement and energy. She often uses traditional iconography, such as dot painting and symbolic imagery, in her work to convey deeper cultural meaning. 

This series of work has been widely recognised for its cultural significance and has been exhibited in galleries and museums across Australia and internationally. She has received numerous awards for her paintings, and is highly regarded in the art world for her unique style.
