Collection: Teresa Baker Tunkin

Teresa Baker Tunkin was born in Alice Springs in 1977 and grew up in Kanpi, South Australia. She lived with her grandparents, the celebrated artists Jimmy Baker and his wife. When she first arrived in Kanpi, the community was still in its early stages of development and there were no houses. Later, Teresa moved to Fregon to live with her mother, Kay Baker, who is also an artist. She completed her schooling in Fregon and in Adelaide. After leaving school, she began teaching Pitjanjara language at a Kanpi school.

Teresa started painting in 2005 at the Tjungu Palya art center, where she was taught by her grandfather, Jimmy. She is a talented and intuitive artist, known for her expressive paintings. Many of her works feature the woman's creation figure, Marlilu. Teresa is married with three children and currently splits her time between Alice Springs, Kanpi, and her homelands at Watarru.
