Collection: Patricia Tunkin
Patricia Baker Tunkin is a prominent Indigenous artist from the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in South Australia. Born in 1981 in Alice Springs, she grew up in Kanpi, learning the traditions and stories of the Pitjantjatjara people from her family. Her grandfather, the celebrated artist Jimmy Baker, and her mother, Kay Baker Tunkin, were significant influences in her artistic journey
Patricia began painting around 2005, inspired by her family's deep connection to their ancestral stories and land. Her works often depict the dreamings (Tjukurpa) associated with her grandfather's teachings, including the "Kalaya Tjukurpa" (Emu Dreaming) and the creation figure Marlilu. These stories are integral to the cultural and spiritual heritage of her community
