Collection: Alvira Bird

Alvira Bird Mbitjana, an Anmatyerre woman from the Utopia community near Alice Springs, inherits a rich artistic lineage from her renowned family, including her mother Eileen Bird and grandmother Ada Bird Petyarre. Growing up amidst the vibrant Utopian artistic scene, Alvira learned traditional painting techniques and gained deep insights into her Country and Women's Dreamings.

Her paintings intricately depict Awelye (Women's Ceremony and Body Paint Designs), symbolizing bush plum, rat-tail plant, and mulga seed. Inspired by the ceremonial rituals of body painting, Alvira's artworks feature women as 'U' shapes, incorporating traditional motifs with intentional use of colors: black for bush plums, white for rat-tail plant seeds, and yellow for mulga seeds.

Alvira's meticulous attention to detail infuses her artworks with a profound sense of heritage and tradition, reflecting the enduring cultural legacy of the Utopian community.
