"Yam Dreaming" Original Painting by Jeannie Mills Pwerle

Comes as a scroll outside of Adelaide, please allow 2-3 weeks stretching in Adelaide

Jeannie Mills Pwerle was born in 1965. She is an Alywarr woman from the Utopia region in Central Australia. Jeannie is family to some of the most celebrated Aboriginal artists in Australia including her mother, Dolly Mills and her Uncle Greeny Purvis Petyarre (who was also a tribal and ceremonial leader). Jeannie has been a part of many exhibitions and has produced collectable works in her time. Jeannie was taught painting by a strong foundation of artists and while Yam dreaming is a common dreaming painted by artist, Jeannie has created her own unique style which is highly respected today.

Her "Yam Dreaming" paintings are well recognised in the Indigenous art world. The seed of the yam is represented with the fine white dots and the colourful brush stroked represent the vegetable and its impressive root system. The desert yam has always been an important food source in Central Australia and can be eaten raw or cooked. It has an impressive root system and commonly found in the woodland areas. Artist paint desert yams to pay homage to the significance of this plant women often perform ceremonies to show respect and encourage growth of the Desert Yam.

Jeannies palette is bright and bold and each piece has a slightly different range on the canvas. Each stroke may contain two or three colours which are painted precisely which comes together to create a flowing and eye catching piece to represent Bush yam.

General Questions

Canvas vs Stretched

Canvas only - the painting will be shipped as a canvas scroll rolled up in a tube and NOT stretched onto timber (ready to hang). We do this to avoid any damage to the painting during transit. As such, you will notice a cheaper price tag for the product with this “Canvas only” option. If you purchase the stretched option by mistake we will get in contact with you.

Stretched - The painting will come stretched on a timber frame and ready to hang. This is usually available in Adelaide only. Please check individual listing descriptions.

If you purchase the stretched option by mistake we will get in contact with you. You will be refunded the difference of the stretching fee and the painting will be shipped to you as the canvas only.

Will my painting come with a certificate of authenticity?

Yes, all of our original paintings come with an Art by Farquhar Certificate of Authenticity.

A certificate of authenticity (COA) is a document that verifies the authenticity of a painting. Buying artwork with a COA is important for establishing the provenance and proving that it's genuine.

As we purchase majority of our paintings directly from artists, we have finished artist photos on hand. There may be certain circumstances where an artist photo cannot be provided, however you will still receive a certificate.

Artists sign paintings verso whenever possible.
